Every few minutes, a camera looks at its stretch of sand and counts. The count becomes the coloured tiles on the map — Low to Very busy — so you can pick your beach, your moment, or another beach altogether. The numbers are estimates, and we say so: each one carries its own confidence, and when a camera cannot see well, the map says that too.
A camera on a pole counts people in its zone. The count — never the image — travels to the platform, is checked, stored and published within minutes. No faces, no identities, no photos leave the pole: counting happens on the spot, and what we keep is a number, a time, and how sure the camera was.
Ystara runs on its own measurement network — not scraped popularity data. Capacity, coverage and confidence are stated per beach and per zone, so a published figure can always be traced back to how it was measured. We build in the open toward a municipal pilot: the engineering record, the accuracy targets and the honest failure modes are part of the product, and we would rather show you a limitation than have you find it.
The first camera is on the bench today; the first full pilot season on a Moroccan beach is planned for summer 2027. From there the network grows beach by beach — with the same rule at every step: publish what is measured, mark what is estimated, and say when we do not know.
