Terms of use

Ystara is a service operated by Youlytics (BE 1025.901.593), Karreweg 63C, 9770 Kruisem, Belgium — so “we” below means Youlytics, and a contract or an invoice will carry that name rather than the brand.

These terms cover three things: the public beach map at ystara.com, operator accounts used by the organisations that run camera installations, and the data service that licences measurements to municipalities, researchers and companies. Using any of them means accepting these terms.

A separate written agreement with Youlytics — a data contract, a pilot agreement — takes precedence over this page wherever the two differ.

Looking at how busy a beach is costs nothing and requires no account. You may link to it, quote it and screenshot it freely; a credit reading “Ystara” is appreciated and, in published work, expected.

Automated bulk collection from the public pages is not the way to get the data — the data service exists for that, it is cheaper for both of us, and it comes with a contract that says what you are allowed to do with the result.

Operator and administrator accounts are created by an organisation's own administrator. Keep your password to yourself, tell us promptly if you think it has been exposed, and do not use an account to reach data your role was not given. Access is scoped deliberately; working around that scope is a breach of these terms rather than a clever trick.

Every figure Ystara publishes is an estimate produced by cameras counting people on sand. Each one carries a confidence value and a coverage value precisely so you can judge how much weight it deserves. We publish the inputs rather than accuracy claims.

These figures are not a safety system. They do not detect drowning, rip currents, injury or crime; they do not replace lifeguards, patrols or emergency services; and they must not be used as the trigger for a safety-critical decision. A camera can be offline, obstructed, or wrong, and the platform will say so rather than quietly guess — but it cannot promise to be watching.

Use them for what they are good at: deciding where to spread a towel, when to send the cleaning crew, how to staff a Sunday, and how a season compared with the last one.

API keys are issued to an organisation under a contract. A key is a credential: keep it secret, do not share it outside the organisation it was issued to, and tell us if it leaks — we will replace it. Requests are counted, both to enforce the tier you bought and because those counts are the invoice.

Analyses, charts, dashboards and publications built from the data are yours. Republishing the raw feed itself, or reselling it onward as a data service, needs a written agreement. Where the data appears in published work, cite it as “Data: Ystara (ystara.com)” with the retrieval date.

The platform is operated carefully but is not sold with an uptime guarantee unless your contract contains one. Cameras are solar-powered devices on public beaches: they lose signal, run flat and occasionally get vandalised. When that happens the platform shows a gap rather than inventing a number, which is the behaviour you want even though it is the less impressive one.

To the extent the law allows, Youlytics is not liable for decisions taken on the basis of the estimates, for losses arising from unavailability, or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

These terms may change as the product does. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new date, and — for contracted customers — by email. Continuing to use the platform after a change means accepting it.

Belgian law applies, and the courts of Belgium have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection you enjoy where you live. Questions: contact@ystara.com.
